The cuisine here shines with its emphasis on fresh, quality ingredients and inventive takes on traditional favorites. Breakfast offerings are exceptional, with luxurious dishes such as the Posh Porridge—creamy oats cooked with vanilla and cream, topped with fresh berries and homemade maple granola—that warm you from the inside out. The Chicken Dinner Focaccia, complete with sage and onion stuffing, is a delightful take on a Sunday dinner in sandwich form.
Sweet endings at The Old Lamp Room are nothing short of divine. Preparations like the velvety Vanilla Rice Pudding paired with Yorkshire rhubarb and a ginger compote provide a gentle, delicate finish, while the Sticky Toffee Pudding promises moist richness, amplified by vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce. The Tripple Chocolate Brownie with pistachios and Baileys cream is a luxurious treat that chocolate lovers will savor thoroughly.
Real customer reviews consistently highlight not just the quality of the food but the wholehearted hospitality and atmosphere. Dan Wade praises their Sunday lunch, noting how the unusual yet perfect pairing of pâté with fruit bread and the Sunday roast platter left a lasting impression. Faye Smith echoes this sentiment, marveling at the perfectly cooked roast beef, chicken, and pork that simply melted in the mouth, and the charming decor that enhances the dining experience.
Paul Walker’s account of their allotment group Christmas meal perfectly captures the venue’s festive charm and attentive staff, leaving guests feeling full and content. First-timers like Andrew Hillaby and James have been equally impressed, sharing how the superb service and utterly fresh, flavorful dishes elevated their meals from mere dining to memorable experiences.
The Old Lamp Room is more than a place to eat; it’s a destination where food is prepared with love and passion, where every plate tells a story of local heritage and contemporary flair. Whether you’re indulging in a leisurely afternoon tea for three, enjoying a loaded croissant or toasted marshmallow dessert, or settling in for a comforting Sunday roast, this Cottingham treasure invites you to savor both the familiar and the exceptional.

Another trip to The Old Lamp Room, for Sunday lunch. We started with pate and fruit bread, which was excellent and I have to admit I have never had fruit bread with pate before and it worked so well. The side salad with a few pickles added that little bit extra. For the main course two of us shared a Sunday roast platter and it was superb. Beef, pork and chicken with plenty of veg and fantastic gravy. We also ordered the cauliflower and leek cheese. This was also bang on. The whole meal was excellent and the staff were a credit to themselves and the employer. We left very happy and very full. No room for desert, but we were told by the couple on the table next to ours that the apple crumble was delicious.
We visited the Lamp Room this afternoon. It was our allotment group Christmas meal. The venue was lovely and festive. The staff looked after us really well and the food was excellent. We all left feeling very full and happy. Thanks for a great experience.
Lovely little place with fantastic food. The fish pie wasn’t the usual type I’m use to but it was out of this world, so fresh and flavourful. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. I’m use to pub grub so was a luxury for me and well worth the little bit extra that you pay. Can’t wait to be back.
Another Sunday means another roast, and this was up there with our faves and best! The roast beef, chicken and pork all cooked to perfection! Melted in our mouths! Everything on our plate was delicious, a proper home cooked roast. The service was fab, atmosphere lovely, deco was right up our street, loved the photo book of the old lamp rooms journey we cant wait to return . Gorgeous little place. Faye and Andrew . Table 3. 2/2/25 3pm.
Our first visit here and we weren't disappointed. The service was excellent and our waitress was pleasant and cheerful which added to the lovely atmosphere and surrounding. Our meals were superb, we had the roast beef and also a chicken roast dinner. We had dessert too, I had the apple crumble, my wife had the coconut panacotta and my friend had the sticky toffee pudding. They were all lovely and having had a lovely main meal the desserts finished the whole meal off. I recommend you definitely book for a table as it's so popular, but it's worth the experience as the quality of the service and food is exceptional. Looking forward to going back for an afternoon tea.

Very stylish and friendly bistro in the old station building in Cottingham. We had breakfast yesterday and it was tasty and well prepared with lots of coffees to accompany it. Relaxed atmosphere making it ideal to catch up with friends. I think we’ll plan to return to sample other types of meals there
